Living a Healthier Lifestyle Might Potentially Add as Many as 14 Years to Your Life
A new study suggests that taking a number of positive health precautions has the capability to increase a person's life by an average of fourteen years. The four parameters of the study are:
- Engaging in regular exercise
- Being a non-smoker
- Consuming healthy portions of vegetables and fruits in one's diet
- Choosing not to over-imbibe alcohol
This study involved twenty thousand individuals and followed them for ten years. Researchers discovered that individuals who did not meet any of the four parameters had a mortality rate four times higher than individuals who lived by all four rules.
Surprisingly, these findings were not affected by socio-economic class, nor were they affected by the weight of the individual. This study, published in the Public Library of Science Medicine, posits that living a lifestyle in which the above four rules are followed can significantly extend an individual's lifespan.
This study was financed and produced by scientists at Cambridge University and the Norfolk County Medical Research Commission over a period that extended from 1993 to 2006.
The individuals who followed in this highly influential study were between the ages of 45 and 79. The group was socially randomized as well as possible, but the participants were, for the most part, Caucasian.
All patients entering the study were healthy and were not suffering from diagnosed cancers or cardiovascular problems.
Bad Habits Shave off the Years
Participants were labeled on a point scale in regard to their adherence to each of the hypothetical parameters. Patients received a point for not being a current smoker, being physically active, drinking between a single unit and fourteen units of alcohol each week (One-half glass of wine was equivalent to a single unit), and a final point was afforded to participants who ate at least five servings of vegetables and fruits each day.
Physical activity was defined in two ways: Participants who worked in physically active occupations such as construction work or nursing qualified for this point, and individuals who worked at a sedentary job who engaged in at least one-half hour of physical exercise daily also qualified.
The results of the study follow common sense perfectly. The more healthy the lifestyle of a participant, the less likely he or she was to experience poor health outcomes. The higher the number, the less likely the patient died over the course of the study.
Amazingly, researchers discovered that a person sixty years old who accumulated no points had the same mortality rate as a person fourteen years older who lived by all four rules evaluated in the study.
Doctor Kay-Tee Khaw was the lead researcher in the study. She says that the study's primary aim was to show the accumulated benefits of these four lifestyle choices and how they lead to enhanced health outcomes.
Science long ago proved that these four attributes have the ability to increase life expectancy, but this is the first longitudinal study to show how much following these four simple rules can lengthen the lifespan.
Wealth and BMI did not affect the Results
Dr. Khaw was somewhat surprised that Body Mass Index and Socioeconomic status did not significantly affect the results. Whether rich or poor or obese or of normal weight, the benefits accrued by this healthy lifestyle are evident and equal regardless of these two personal indicators.
Dr. Khaw concludes that since wealth and weight status do not hinder the effects of living an otherwise healthy lifestyle, it would be relatively easy for individuals to reap major health benefits even if they were unable to change their lives regarding BMI or socio-economic status.
The most noticeable change in mortality rate could be attributed to a vastly lower rate of cardiovascular disease among those in the healthy group. Participants who belonged to the healthy 4-point group were five times less likely to die of cardiovascular disease than their zero-point counterparts.
A similar, slightly less pronounced correlation was found between cancer mortality and overall score. Although the central study did not include patients who suffered from a significant disease at the outset, researchers found evidence that individuals who suffered from major medical conditions were better off living by all four of the measured parameters.
Study Great News for National Health Leaders
Campaigners for the promotion of better health consider the study a boon for their goals, proving that simple steps can be taken to improve life quality vastly. A representative of the British Heart Foundation, Judy O'Sullivan, noted that the results of this study are vitally important because they prove that cardiovascular and heart disease are not unavoidable and that smart living and good health choices can vastly reduce mortality.
Just by avoiding smoking, exercising regularly, eating your fruits and veggies, and drinking in moderation, one can vastly reduce personal mortality risk and increase life expectancy.
A spokesperson from the British Department of Health believes that although every individual is responsible for his or her own health, there is a lot that can be done in the scientific and political community in order to inform the populace about how simple decisions and commitments can have significant and life-changing impacts on one's health.
The British Department of Health initiated a campaign known as Small Change, Big Difference in order to increase health awareness and encourage healthier choices among the citizenry.
Why Choose HGH Hormone Replacement Therapy?
This study is important to Anti-Aging and Longevity Research because it scientifically proves what Anti-Aging Physicians have known by anecdote for many years: Making healthy lifestyle choices vastly improves health outcomes and lengthens life.
Most Bio-Identical Human Growth Hormone Replacement Therapy regimens make the same recommendations in this British study. Patients are urged not to smoke and to avoid the overconsumption of alcohol.
In addition to this, they are recommended to stay physically active and eat smart and nutritious meals. If simply following these four vital rules can add as many as fourteen years to one's life, imagine how many more can be added with the use of Physician Supervised Human Growth Hormone Injections.
Also, this study was also controlled for obesity, so it doesn't accurately display the benefits afforded by maintaining a strict and healthy diet, which can also add years to one's life.
Injectable Human Growth Hormone is a wonderful Anti-Aging Treatment, but combining it with conscious lifestyle choices can make it positively miraculous, allowing patients to look even twenty years younger than their actual age.
